Whale
I carved a whale out of Padauk, Zebrawood, Mahogany, Yellowheart, Curly Maple, Walnut, Ambrosia Maple and 11.5 gallons of epoxy. I first milled the lumber, then glued up hundreds of pieces in a strategic order. I then spent 2 weeks doing 4 separate pours of epoxy to get the volume I needed for the carving. Once the epoxy was cured, I used a chainsaw as well as other power tools to carve the whale out of the block. I then hand sanded the entire sculpture from 60 grit up to 5000 grit before polishing and finishing. This sculpture was commissioned by ‘The Beacon’, and event center located in Topeka, KS.
